A priest and a therapist struggle to keep their distance after a renewed moment of affection, but an accident brings them together.

The story

After Tonio lets himself be carried away and hugs and kisses Julia as they did when they were young, guilt weighs on him: as a Catholic priest, he cannot have a relationship. To avoid further temptation, he opposes hiring Julia as the new family therapist at St. Sixtus parish. Julia is angry and considers opening her own practice, as she had done in Berlin. Their effort to keep their distance falters when they witness an accident and give first aid. Eighteen-year-old Ben Massinger, who had been drinking at a party, crashes into a tree while driving at high speed and is taken to hospital with serious injuries. The next day, Julia has to look after Ben’s ex-girlfriend Nele, who partly blames herself for the accident.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After Tonio lets himself be carried away and hugs and kisses Julia as they did when they were young, he is plagued by guilt. As a Catholic priest, he is not allowed to have a relationship. To avoid being tempted again, he therefore opposed hiring Julia as the new family therapist for the St. Sixtus parish. Julia is initially angry and considers setting up her own therapy practice, as she had done successfully in Berlin. Keeping their distance from each other does not go smoothly at first: Tonio and Julia witness an accident and have to give first aid. Eighteen-year-old Ben Massinger had been drinking at a party and crashed into a tree while driving at a dangerously high speed. He is taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The next day, Julia has to look after Ben’s ex-girlfriend, Nele. She blames herself in part for the accident because she had argued with Ben, prompting him to leave the party in a hurry. Because of his severe injuries, Ben’s plans for a professional ice hockey career are ruined. This hits Ben’s father particularly hard, since he had coached his son and was also an active athlete himself. Tonio talks to Ben’s parents and tries to support them. After Ben has to have one of his legs amputated, Ben’s mother also levels harsh accusations at Nele. Julia would have liked to prevent this, but she could not respond because Tonio had not told her about the amputation. Julia and Tonio agree that they need to coordinate better with each other in future. Otherwise, both the parents and Nele risk being torn apart by the question of who is to blame. When Nele suddenly disappears, her mother, Eva Massinger, now makes accusations. Julia and Jette Kaufmann search for the girl together and eventually find her completely drunk by the lake. After an intense discussion with Tonio and Julia, Ben’s parents acknowledge their mistakes. Ben’s mother had always tried to prevent Nele and Ben from being together. Now she relents and allows Nele to visit her son at his hospital bedside. Tonio and Julia are glad they have managed to ease the Massingers’ conflicts. They both agree that, as such a “well-coordinated team,” they should continue working together.
