Full plot (contains spoilers)
Ahlam (played by Ghazal Sarem) is an Arab girl from Khuzestan who left her birthplace as a child and came to Ahvaz. She is now in her final year of medical school at university. Under tribal law, Ahlam is required to marry her cousin Farhan (played by Hamid Farrokhnezhad), but she is in love with her professor, Parviz (played by Mehdi Ahmadi), and their love is mutual. Although Ahlam recognizes the tribal way of thinking as an undeniable reality, she refuses to marry her illiterate fisherman cousin, who is involved in smuggling goods. She came to the city with her mother at the age of two, after her father died, and decides to return to her birthplace to discuss the matter. Ahlam and Farhan, who have never met before, come face to face for the first time. In a frank conversation, Ahlam tells Farhan that she cannot marry him while she is in love with someone else. Deeply hurt by what she says, Farhan still considers her his fiancée and believes that, if she refuses to submit, it is his duty under an ancient tribal custom to kill her. Ahlam also talks with Aunt Hashemieh (played by Salimeh Rangzan) and tries to convince her that this old custom has no place in the modern era. Her aunt supports Ahlam, but Farhan’s family continues to insist on the marriage. With the help of a lawyer (played by Saeed Poursamimi), Parviz tries to find a solution to the problem, but faces a wave of opposition. Tribal pressure eventually forces Ahlam to agree to the marriage. On the wedding night, her aunt kills Farhan with a knife, and Ahlam burns in a fire she has set herself in the bridal chamber.
