The story
In 2016, the sensational Red Copper Case is solved after its suspect confesses, but one case still lacks enough physical evidence for a definitive conclusion. Aging criminal investigation expert Cui Xun is invited to join the investigation. A tiny fingerprint recalls major cases he handled in earlier eras: the Ice City sexual-predator case, the 1983 murder-and-robbery case, and the Jiangcheng bus explosion. Guided by his creed that physical evidence does not lie, Cui keeps searching for the truth in the smallest traces.

In 2016, the sensational “Red Copper Case” (based on the Silver Case) was finally solved. The suspect confessed without reservation to the crimes he had committed, but one case still lacked enough physical evidence for a definitive conclusion. Criminal investigation expert Cui Xun (played by Zhang Yi and Li Xuejian), now nearing old age, is invited to take part in the investigation. A tiny fingerprint brings to mind major cases he had handled in the past: the Ice City sexual predator case (based on the Harbin Taiping sexual predator case), the major 1983 murder-and-robbery case, the Jiangcheng bus explosion case (based on the Wuhan bus explosion case), and others. Across different eras, guided by his professional creed that “physical evidence does not lie,” he continues searching for the truth in the tiniest traces…
