Full plot (contains spoilers)
Yokohama, Japan. Yuka is a flirtatious young woman, a Christian and somewhat naïve, who dreams of traveling and wants nothing more than to make her many lovers happy. But she does not let them kiss her. When she was a little girl, a priest caught her spying through a window as her mother kissed a Black sailor. Referring to fornication, he told her it was the worst thing one could do. Yuka understood that kissing was the worst thing, and that fornication was no problem. Among her lovers are a married businessman in his forties who keeps her and whom she calls “Papa”; Osamu, a passionate young man who is in love with her; and Frank, who works at a travel agency. Yuka makes herself available to them at any hour of the day and assures them of her love, except on Mondays, which she is determined to spend with the man who keeps her. Things take a tragic turn when he begs her to sleep with an American ocean-liner captain with whom he is doing business. Yuka agrees to please him, but Osamu overhears the conversation and later accidentally kills himself while trying to get onto the ship. Yuka nevertheless sleeps with the captain before rejoining “Papa,” who is waiting for her on the pier. To dispel the disgust she feels about what she has just done, she leads the businessman in a frenzied dance. He slips and falls into the water. Yuka watches him drown without making any move to save him.
