Full plot (contains spoilers)

After serving a prison sentence of about six years, Jokichi Sakurada visits Yuichi, his junior in the underworld, in Niitsu, only to find that Yuichi has become the right-hand man of a man named Oto, who is scheming to take over as head of the Nagamaru family, a major yakuza organization with influence throughout the Hokuriku region. A subordinate of Kitamatsu, who is also seen as a possible second-generation head of the Nagamaru family, attacks Oto but fails. Sakurada suspects Kitamatsu is behind the attack and tortures the subordinate to get a confession. Feeling sorry for the man as he suffers brutal torture, Jokichi grants his request and kills him.
