Gomez & Tavarès (2003)

Maxime Tavarès is a crooked, boastful Marseille cop. He lives in a caravan on the property of his “uncle,” who is a great help to him with all kinds of scams and swindles. He is assigned a Parisian partner, Gomez. Moody and reputed to be incorruptible, Gomez nevertheless lives in a sumptuous villa with his wife, his two sons, and his sister. The mismatched pair are tasked with investigating a suicide that turns out to be a murder disguised as a suicide. They discover that it was a settling of scores ordered by a powerful Marseille mafioso, who has the help of a mysterious informant inside their police station. The two partners are assigned to protect Paulina, a stripper and the daughter of the supposed suicide victim. The victim is said to have left behind a fortune that everyone wants. Meanwhile, the National Police Inspectorate informs Tavarès that Gomez is a “major crook” and asks him to spy on his partner, in exchange for turning a blind eye to his own petty scams. But Tavarès, who has ultimately become friends with Carlos Gomez, tells him about the situation. They identify the mafia boss they are trying to swindle, but are kidnapped. Freed by Uncle, they intervene in a major drug deal, steal the money from the sale, bring down the local Mafia bigwig and his accomplice, who turns out to be their police commissioner, and finally free Paulina, whom the gangsters had captured.
