At Christmas, a family returning to their old home finds it occupied by mice determined to drive the humans out.
The story
Peter returns with his wife, daughter, and son to the abandoned house where he spent his childhood to spend the Christmas holidays there. But a family of mice already lives in the house, spending much of its time in a decorated dollhouse. Believing the house is not large enough for both mice and humans, they try to make it seem haunted and drive the family away. The competing residents turn the house into a battleground of traps, countertraps, and pranks.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Peter returns with his family (his wife, daughter, and son) to the old, abandoned house where he spent his childhood, to spend the Christmas holidays there. But the house is inhabited by a family of mice who spend most of their time in a decorated dollhouse. They want to make it seem as though the house is haunted because “this house isn’t big enough for mice and humans,” turning it into a battleground of traps, countertraps, and pranks. The situation becomes even more complicated with the arrival of an exterminator, who shows up in a fur-covered van with the words “rent to kill” written on its side. After getting over their initial fright, the mice fight back by incapacitating him with an electric shock. Despite the conflict between humans and mice, Lea, the youngest little mouse, and Mikkel, the human boy, become friends and face the war between mice and humans as a kind of Romeo and Juliet between species.
