A family’s autumn gathering unfolds alongside a quiet, elusive portrait of a mother.
The story
On an autumn Saturday, Karin and Simon visit their parents and youngest sister, Clara. The family gathers for dinner, and more relatives arrive as the day goes on. Their apartment fills with conversation, everyday routines, and preparations for cooking, while the family cat and dog move casually from room to room. Amid the bustle, the mother seems strangely absent and does not quite fit into the family dynamic. The gathering gradually opens into a blend of family drama, fairy-tale elements, and a psychological portrait of the mother.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
On an autumn Saturday, Karin and Simon visit their parents and their youngest sister, Clara. The family gathering is an occasion for a shared dinner, and more relatives arrive over the course of the day. As the family members bring the apartment to life with their conversations, everyday activities, and preparations for cooking, the cat and dog wander casually from room to room. Only the mother does not quite weave herself into the family dynamic; she seems strangely absent. Gradually, side spaces open up between family drama, fairy tale, and a psychological portrait of a mother.
