She flees to an empty family house in the countryside to sort through her thoughts. Soon, people from her life—including her mother and an ex-boyfriend—begin appearing beside her, personifying her thoughts and questioning particular situations. As these thoughts take visual form, memories, echoes of the past, hopes, and doubts become manifest.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Julian and Marie are on a ship for his brother’s wedding. When Julian publicly proposes to Marie at the wedding, she tells him she doesn’t know whether she wants to marry him. Marie then flees to the countryside, to an empty house belonging to her family. She intends to sort out her thoughts. Soon, “people from her thoughts” begin appearing beside her one by one: her mother and an ex-boyfriend. More and more people from her life personify her thoughts, and they begin to question particular situations. The gradual solidifying of thoughts into people is depicted visually. Memories and echoes of the past manifest themselves, but so do hopes and doubts. A short time later, Julian calls Marie and asks if he may come to see her. After hesitating briefly, she agrees. He brings his own people from his thoughts with him. At first, his two brothers appear; later, his father joins them.
