After a family garment factory collapses under debt, two sisters return to their mother in the countryside and face uncertain new lives.
The story
A family of garment contractors is forced to close its factory amid debt and bankruptcy. While the only brother moves to another town with his family, his two sisters return to their mother in the countryside. One hopes to pursue her ambitions as an actress; the other, who had run the factory, begins working her own land to keep from being overwhelmed by debt. The latter’s daughter has no intention of finishing high school and takes a frivolous, superficial attitude toward everything, opposing even her widowed grandmother’s unexpected love affair with a farmer.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
There is no competing with the Chinese, so a family of garment contractors (tailors who make clothes for companies in the North) is forced to close its factory in the face of debt and bankruptcy. While the only brother moves to another town with his family, the two sisters return to their mother in the countryside: one pursues her ambitions as an actress, while the other, who had also been in charge of running the factory, starts working her own land so she will not be overwhelmed by debt. The latter’s daughter, meanwhile, has no intention of finishing high school and takes a frivolous, superficial attitude toward everything, opposing it all—including her widowed grandmother’s unexpected love affair with a farmer.
