The story
After their mother dies and their father takes his own life, Jack, Lisa, and Mathis are left orphaned. Jack, nineteen and only recently an adult, obtains legal custody of his ten-year-old brother. Their seventeen-year-old sister Lisa seeks independence. As the siblings begin a new life, each copes differently with their sudden bereavement and the freedom they are discovering.

Three siblings—Jack, 19, Lisa, 17, and Mathis, 10—are left orphans when their mother dies and their father takes his own life. Lisa seeks independence, while Jack, who has only recently come of age, obtains legal custody of his younger brother. Their new life takes shape according to the different ways they cope with their sudden bereavement and the freedom they are discovering.
