Full plot (contains spoilers)
In a German battalion during the Second World War, the bungling, cheeky soldiers Otto and Fritz cause endless trouble for the Nazi sergeants. Otto is always dropping hand grenades down his own sleeve, while Fritz disguises himself as a woman and is sent to the detention cell. The Wehrmacht unit is quite inept, and many soldiers have accidents, ending up in the hands of ignorant, incompetent doctors who operate on them and amputate limbs at random. The character of Sandokan makes a curious appearance; he was popular at the time, riding the wave of the television serial’s success, and here is an implacable enemy of the British troops. With surrender imminent, the Nazi dictator flees through the city wearing a Charlie Chaplin mask, to be recognized and saluted by the protagonists, who are by then completely in disarray.
