After being suspended from his customs-training job, Alexandre returns to his hometown and is drawn into a local police investigation.
The story
Alexandre, who trains Canadian customs employees in firearms, is suspended for two weeks because of compulsive sexual behavior and returns to his hometown of Napierville. He helps at his family’s motorsports racetrack and meets Aðalbjörg, an Icelandic visitor who has driven there in a tuned sports car to race. As they explore the area, Alexandre shows her a former baseball field now used as a truck parking lot and a small factory that makes mothballs. At the same time, local police investigate the source of pornographic drawings circulating in the village and pressure Alexandre to confess to creating them, though he denies any connection.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Alexandre trains employees of the Canadian customs service in the use of firearms. Because of compulsive sexual behavior, he is suspended from duty for two weeks and returns to his hometown of Napierville. There, he helps out at the family business, a motorsports racetrack. He meets Aðalbjörg, who has come all the way from Iceland in her tuned sports car to race there. The two wander around the area together, and Alexandre shows her the former baseball field, now a truck parking lot, and a small factory in the middle of a residential neighborhood that processes naphthalene into mothballs. Meanwhile, the local police investigate the origins of pornographic drawings circulating in the village and pressure Alexandre to turn himself in as their creator. Although Alexandre denies any connection to the matter, he otherwise remains passive, and the investigators begin using violence. With burned hands and a bleeding head, he is driven out of his hometown. Alexandre travels to Iceland. He wanders aimlessly through the depopulated landscape and eventually comes across a motorsports racetrack. He covers his eyes and listens to the roar of the engines.
