The story

A call from Greece interrupts a crucial meeting: his estranged daughter Sophia, whom he has not seen in more than ten years, has died. Alexandre travels to Kalamaki, where the mayor takes him to a clinic to see her body. He is told that an autopsy must be performed before it can be repatriated. The mayor also asks what Alexandre plans to do about Yannis, Sophia’s ten-year-old son—whose existence Alexandre never knew about.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
In Paris, Alexandre Varda (Bernard Campan) is a feared real-estate developer. Although he was born to Greek parents, he has always considered himself French and kept his roots buried within him. Alexandre is under pressure as his shareholders have decided to remove him from his own company. During a crucial working meeting, Alexandre is interrupted by a call from Greece. He learns that his daughter Sophia, whom he has not seen in more than ten years, has died. He abruptly leaves the meeting, allowing his associates to take advantage of the situation. He arrives on the island of Kalamaki the following day, an island torn apart by the crisis that has been gripping Greece for years. At the harbor, Andreas, the mayor, is waiting for him. He takes him to the small clinic, where Alexandre discovers his daughter’s body. The shock is devastating. Andreas tells him that he will not be able to repatriate the body until an autopsy has been performed. Above all, he asks what Alexandre intends to do about Yannis, Sophia’s son. Alexandre is at a loss. In barely 36 hours, he has been stripped of his company, his daughter has died, and he has discovered that he is the grandfather of a boy of about ten, whose very existence he had not even suspected.
