Lisa, Héloïse, and Audrey are staying in Marrakech. In an alley in the medina, a fortune-teller predicts that Héloïse will get married next year, that Audrey will land a job in the United States, and that Lisa will die in fear and violence on the next one. On Friday, Paris is sweltering in a heatwave and deserted by its residents, who have gone to the coast in search of some relief from the heat. Even Walter, Lisa’s boyfriend, leaves for the weekend to visit his parents on the coast, but Lisa cannot leave the city because she has to prepare for her thesis defense, which is scheduled for early the following week. She stays alone in her Paris apartment with her cat, Elvis, as the streets empty out—and so does her apartment building. During the day, Lisa hears strange noises in the building. Then Héloïse tells her she is going to get married, and Audrey tells her she has landed the coveted job in New York: the two women cannot help reminding Lisa of the fortune-teller’s predictions in Marrakech. But Lisa’s unease grows when the TV reports that the criminal investigation department has been investigating a serial killer for weeks. Every Friday, he kills a young blonde woman, decapitates her cat, and places the cat’s head on the victim’s body. But this is a Friday, Lisa is blonde, she has a cat, and she is hearing increasingly disturbing noises in the building.
