Full plot (contains spoilers)

A young woman named Marie lives in a small village and dreams of seeing the world, then marrying the schoolteacher, who is too shy to ask her to marry him. She enters a beauty pageant in Dinard, where she is crowned “Queen of the Seas.” Meanwhile, an American billionaire who has just divorced wants to marry a stranger quickly to reassure his investors. He abducts Marie and takes her to New York to show her the city, the parties, and his company. She misses her village, her friends, and her parents. The billionaire returns to the village to persuade her parents to come to New York, then has the entire village transported there, along with its inhabitants, houses, and trees. The French villagers find themselves amid skyscrapers, beside highways, with planes flying overhead. Since moving the village has cost a fortune, the billionaire turns it into a tourist attraction. Thousands of Americans visit the French village and photograph its inhabitants, much to their dismay. Marie agrees to marry the billionaire. The schoolteacher arrives after she has given her consent; the billionaire realizes that he is the man she loves. With grace, he steps aside for the schoolteacher and moves the village back to France, where Marie and the schoolteacher marry.
