The story
Georges, an unfaithful real estate agent struggling with marital problems, turns to Maurice Lappin, a charity volunteer who also works part-time at the post office. Georges asks Maurice to pose as his wife, hoping to get rid of his mistress, win back his actual wife, and keep the two women from meeting face to face. The plan hinges on Maurice’s impersonation as Georges tries to manage the competing relationships without a confrontation.
