A hapless widower seeking a tango partner finds an unexpected connection with an ex-striptease dancer on the run.

The story

Max de Keukeleire is an aging widower who lives above his family’s untidy cup-and-trophy shop with his grumpy father, Gaspard, and teenage daughter, Sofie. The business is struggling, and Max is no more gifted at selling than he is at dancing. He attends weekly dance lessons, but his teacher pairs him with a coat rack. With a championship approaching, Max sets out to find a partner. By chance, he meets Annie, a former striptease dancer fleeing her lover. Their first encounter goes badly, but a connection begins to grow between them.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Max de Keukeleire is a somewhat aging widower who lives above a rather untidy-looking shop, a family business selling cups and trophies, with his grumpy father Gaspard and his teenage daughter Sofie. Business is not going well, however, because Max knows about as much about selling as the average cow knows about painting façades. He sees the dance lessons he attends every week as a pleasant diversion. Unfortunately, his artistic abilities are just as bad as his commercial temperament: downright hopeless. So his teacher has him dance with a coat rack instead. With the championship coming up, this is hardly an appealing prospect, and Max goes looking for a partner. By a stroke of bad luck, he meets Annie, a former striptease dancer who is on the run from her lover. Their first encounter is not what you would call successful, but little by little, something beautiful develops between them. Annie’s former lover tries to spoil things, but in the end they are still allowed to compete in the tango championship.
