Meine Tochter und der Millionär (2009)

Hannes Schmitz is a garbage collector in Hamburg. He used to play football for HSV, but now, due to a sports injury, he coaches the youth team of a suburb of Hamburg. Hannes’s daughter Annika, whom he raised on his own, works at a hotel and is dating her colleague, the chef Alexander. After Alexander introduces Hannes and Annika to his parents and proposes to Annika at the same time, they are astonished to learn that Alexander is the son of multimillionaires Verena and Moritz von Wrede. Alexander has kept his true identity from Annika, so she is furious and flees with her father Hannes from Alexander’s family home in Hamburg-Blankenese. Their relationship breaks down, but Hannes soon realizes that Annika and Alexander are still in love and want to rekindle their relationship. Hannes, however, is completely against this and wants Annika to break up with Alexander for good. When she refuses to do as her father wants, he tries everything he can to end their relationship. Alexander’s father, Moritz, also tries to put an end to the relationship between his son and Annika: he offers Hannes money to leave Hamburg with his daughter for a while. Hannes turns down the offer and, at the same time, gives Moritz 50 euros to make sure Alexander keeps his hands off Annika. Annika and Alexander have meanwhile fled to Denmark to escape the problems back home. They find their way back to each other and feel sure about their relationship, until Annika discovers an email Alexander had intended to send to his parents. The draft says that Alexander needs time to decide whether he or his parents are right, and whether or not he is a good match for Annika. After reading the email, Annika is hurt by its contents and returns to Hamburg in anger. Hannes Schmitz and Moritz von Wrede meet again, and Moritz tells Hannes that Alexander is going to marry Consuela Martinez, a Colombian hotel heiress. Annika also learns about the upcoming wedding and is shocked. Alexander himself does not agree with the marriage, because he does not love Consuela. Nevertheless, the church wedding ceremony takes place, but a commotion ensues: Annika, wearing a wedding dress, arrives at the church in a garbage truck with Hannes and his coworkers from the sanitation department. Annika enters the church through a window and thereby prevents Alexander and Consuela from getting married. She then flees the church with Alexander and drives away in the garbage truck. Alexander’s mother, who had appeared shocked by their escape moments earlier, calls out to him that she is proud of her son.
