The story

The film tells the fictionalized biography of the celebrated musician Pietro Mascagni. While composing his opera Guglielmo Ratcliff, he skips classes and is expelled from the Milan Conservatory. Driven by financial need, he accepts a position as the director of the Maresca operetta company, with which he travels from one city to another. When he arrives in Genoa, he falls in love with Lina, who will become his partner and inspiration.
