Three Tunisian women confront patriarchal traditions as love, marriage, and independence shape their lives.
The story
Leïla, from a modest background, cannot live out a reciprocated love and is forced to flee, eventually turning to prostitution. Naïma, a doctor, takes Leïla in under extraordinarily difficult circumstances; she lives alone with her daughter, Mounia, after giving up a youthful romance and entering an unhappy arranged marriage. The film also follows Amina, who is married to a philosophy professor described as liberal. Despite this, she is disillusioned and now lives separately. Their stories present three different encounters with conservative patriarchal traditions.

The film tells the story of three Tunisian women, all confronted with conservative patriarchal traditions. Leïla, from a modest background, was unable to live out a love that was reciprocated, and had to flee and turn to prostitution. Naïma, a doctor who took her in under extraordinarily difficult circumstances, lives alone with her daughter, Mounia. She too had to give up a youthful romance and entered into an unhappy arranged marriage. The third portrait is of Amina, married to a philosophy professor with liberal ideas. Yet she is disillusioned and now lives separately.
