Palace Beach Hotel (2014)

Since 2009, the French armed forces have been sending troops returning from operations to various hotel clubs in Cyprus for a few days of psychological decompression. The regiment arriving from Afghanistan that day is eagerly awaited by Colonel Letellier, sent specially from Paris to investigate a particularly traumatic event experienced by some of the soldiers: one of their comrades, Bertillon, was slit-throated before their eyes by a fanatical Taliban fighter. For his investigation, Letellier relies on Captain Laurence Di Vanno, the regiment’s doctor and a specialist in post-traumatic stress. Although the soldiers questioned by Letellier exonerate their superiors and seem to have recovered well from their comrade’s death, three of them—Corporals Fischer, Novacek, and Elsa Beaudouin—are behaving increasingly strangely, leading Letellier and Di Vanno to suspect that perhaps not everything happened as reported. One morning, Novacek’s lifeless body is found in the hotel swimming pool. His autopsy is to reveal a major surprise.
