Full plot (contains spoilers)
In a decadent Venice, the very young Franca, a family friend, arrives at the villa where Melissa, a beautiful woman in her prime, lives with her cousin Gianni and their elderly, paralyzed aunt Adele. Before long, the lives of the three are thrown into turmoil: Melissa, who secretly desires Gianni, cannot bear to see him turn his attention to their beautiful guest, while the aunt is even more disturbed as she helplessly watches the affairs unfold (Franca also tries to seduce Melissa). When the aunt, unable to tolerate Franca’s shameless behavior, slaps her, Franca lies motionless on the floor. Convinced she has killed her, Melissa throws Franca’s body into the sea with Gianni’s help. The commissioner in charge of the investigation immediately realizes that something about the story does not add up: in fact, Franca, who had a heart condition, died of fright when her paralyzed, mute aunt suddenly burst into her room.
