Full plot (contains spoilers)
Maria is a wealthy woman married to Osvaldo, a noble landowner. Her life is entirely devoted to sexual passion and eroticism, so after years of unhappiness with her husband, she rekindles her passion with her former lover Alessio, a still very charming man. But he is more interested in her money than in her love, betrays her, and accidentally kills her by shooting her in the heart. Osvaldo then goes to a convent where Carlotta, Maria’s twin sister, is staying. A very shy and reserved woman, she is moved to Osvaldo’s luxurious country villa. Carlotta, physically identical to Maria, becomes the object of Osvaldo’s perversions, and he often makes her undress in front of his late wife’s portrait. When Osvaldo’s nephew Marco arrives with his tutor Massimo, Carlotta begins an exciting love affair with Massimo, involving sex and perversity, which leads to Osvaldo’s death: overcome with grief, he suffers a fatal heart attack.
