The story

Company director Jens Møller leads a playboy life until a clay pigeon hits him at a shooting range and he loses his memory. Given the wrong jacket at the clubhouse, he finds a note for J.O. Sand and an invitation to a garden party. There he meets pianist Malene Brandt, who recognizes him, though he cannot remember that they were once married. Trying to identify himself, Jens consults a lawyer about Sand’s divorce discussions, but Mrs. Sand denies he is Sand. A visit to the police brings no answers; then his chauffeur recognizes him and takes him home, where his butler helps him piece together his life.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Company director Jens Møller (Dirch Passer) leads a real playboy lifestyle, but while out at a shooting range, he is hit on the head by a clay pigeon and loses his memory. At the clubhouse, he is given the wrong jacket, in which he finds a note bearing the name J.O. Sand and an invitation to a garden party at a girl’s house. At the party, he meets pianist Malene Brandt (Birgitte Price), who knows him, but he cannot remember that they were once married. Later, Møller visits lawyer Andresen (Ove Sprogøe) about Sand’s divorce discussions. Mrs. Sand (Sigrid Horne-Rasmussen) denies that he is Sand, so he and Andresen go to the police, but learn nothing. On the street afterward, Møller is recognized by his chauffeur, who takes him to the director’s luxurious home. His butler Morris (Paul Hagen) greets him there and helps him piece together his life, revealing, among other things, that for a while Møller has been partying so much that his company is in trouble. Møller sees pictures of women he has been involved with, including one of Malene, whom Morris does not know. Møller dislikes what he learns about his life and resolves to change it. A visit to the company shakes up the slackness he finds there, and an evening out with Malene, who likes the changed Jens, rekindles forgotten feelings. Malene is ready to give up her musical career to resume her life with Jens, but her impresario Max (Axel Strøbye) is not happy about it. A series of mix-ups leads Max and Jens each to believe that the other is married to Malene (Jens and Malene were never divorced). After a very boozy evening with Max, Jens wakes up and realizes that he is the one married to Malene. He is about to go looking for her when he is struck by a vase and forgets the past few days—in other words, he is a playboy again. He turns up at the office and is very surprised by the new, hardworking approach, but is told that Malene is rehearsing at Tivoli. He goes there and now understands that he still loves Malene, who is temporarily miffed that he failed to show up earlier that day. Jens convinces her that he has lost his memory and that he is a new, better version of himself.
