Full plot (contains spoilers)
Care worker Gundula Glöckner would do anything for her two children. Her 16-year-old son, Michel, and her 24-year-old daughter, Lena, are her greatest pride. All the more upsetting for her is that Lena keeps getting involved with the wrong men. On the advice of Pastor Gustav Schrotmann, Gundula is supposed to persuade Lena to join a pilgrimage to Padua. But Lena refuses to go and pray to Saint Anthony for a better love life. So Gundula promptly decides to make the journey herself, and joins the pastor, six other pilgrims, and the ill-tempered bus driver, Benno Fischer, along with her son Michel. She and Benno do not get along at all. Amid all the minor and major mishaps on the trip, she repeatedly gets into arguments with him. However, she also realizes that she is gradually developing feelings for him.
