The story
In Gaeta in 1982, four unemployed women, frustrated in their aspirations, try to change their lives. Anna, a concierge’s daughter, is on her own with two children to support and earns money occasionally through cleaning. Maria is deeply religious and a victim of an alcoholic, violent husband who uses her solely to have a child. Sisters Francesca and Caterina have different ambitions: Francesca, a lesbian, secretly dreams of leaving Italy for England, while Caterina hopes to attend university in Rome. Feeling they have little to lose, the four decide to rob their town’s bank disguised as men. Commissioner Morandi is called in to investigate.

In Gaeta in 1982, four unemployed women, frustrated in their aspirations, try to change the course of their lives. Anna, the daughter of a building concierge, is on her own, with two children to support, and occasionally earns a living cleaning. Maria is deeply religious and the victim of an alcoholic, violent husband who uses her solely to have a child. Finally, there are the sisters Francesca and Caterina: Francesca is a lesbian with a secret dream of leaving Italy for England, while Caterina aspires to attend university in Rome. With the courage of those who have little to lose, they decide together to rob the bank in their town, disguised as men. The robbery, which Commissioner Morandi is called in to investigate, sets off a whirlwind of daring events destined to turn the “good girls’” lives upside down. Morandi has just arrived in Gaeta and moved into the building where Anna’s mother works as the concierge.
