The story

Arnaud, a young man who usually avoids making decisions, is beset by problems as his wedding approaches. When he learns that his fiancée Anna has doubts of her own, he chases after her as she keeps disappearing. Meanwhile, he struggles to organize the ceremony and resist the demands of those around him: his traditional future in-laws, his possessive mother, his hot-tempered sister, and friends making plans for his future. He also cannot bring himself to end things with Léa, his mistress, whom he loves and who offers him comfort. As the wedding draws closer, Arnaud must grapple with whether he can make a choice about his future.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Arnaud (Benjamin Biolay), a young man who usually avoids making decisions, is faced with a host of problems just as he is about to get married. Suddenly assailed by doubts when he is told that Anna (Valérie Donzelli), his fiancée, has doubts of her own, he finds himself chasing after Anna, who keeps disappearing. He is unable to decide how to organize the ceremony or to say “no” to all the people around him: he is swept up by his future in-laws, devout practitioners of religious rites and deeply attached to their traditions; he cannot escape the control of his possessive mother (Nicole Garcia) and hot-tempered sister (Emmanuelle Devos), nor can he get away from his group of friends, who are making plans for his future... More serious than his inability to get the work done on his future love nest (a real construction site), he gets tangled up in another love affair (also a work in progress): Arnaud does not know how to break up with his mistress Léa (Sarah Adler), whom he loves very much, because she is always there to listen to him. He is afraid of losing her caring concern (and her reassuring embraces), and even begins to think about calling off his wedding—but will he have the strength to say so?
