Full plot (contains spoilers)
Seventeen-year-old Theo Jacobsen is found dead by school secretary Annett Ludwig below the steep cliffs on the Baltic Sea. He had been pushed and suffered a broken neck. Theo had been tutoring Annett’s daughter Paula for some time, and at their last meeting he told her that her mother was involved with a student. Since his mother’s death, Theo had been living with his alcoholic father; a classmate from Poland, Karol, lived in a camper on the school grounds. Karin had only recently met Theo during a project week at the commercial school and had witnessed him being bullied, which is why she blames herself for not asking more questions. By chance, she learns that prosecutor Brunner is going to leave his job on Usedom and informs her nephew Rainer. His girlfriend Katharina, who is also a prosecutor, shows interest in the position. While examining the victim’s laptop, the police discover that Theo had repeatedly sold test questions to other students, earning several thousand euros on the side. To do this, he must have accessed the school’s server. The deputy principal, Brinkhaus, then suddenly comes under the investigators’ scrutiny. He repeatedly behaves suspiciously, for example when he breaks into Theo’s sealed bedroom to retrieve books he had given the student. Brinkhaus had previously maintained close contact with students and had been transferred from his former school in Greifswald. Theo may have learned about this and blackmailed Brinkhaus. Karin discovers that Annett and Karol were in a relationship, which Annett now wants to end. Karol does not want to be cast aside so easily. Using Theo’s phone, he sends Paula a video showing him and Annett having sex in the camper. Paula then goes to the camper, where Karol and Annett are arguing about what will happen to their relationship. Paula barricades the door and is about to set the camper on fire when Karin arrives. Paula says that she loved Karol and had been in a relationship with him, though Annett did not know this. Karin talks Paula out of her plan. In a flashback, Karol is shown chasing Theo after realizing that Theo had filmed him and Annett having sex. At the cliff’s edge, they struggle over the phone containing the compromising video, and Theo falls into the depths. The police take Karol away. At the end, Rainer’s partner Katharina announces that she is considering taking over Brunner’s job as prosecutor and staying on Usedom long-term.
