Her friend Bärbel is lovesick over Pietro, a handsome Italian whose father deals wholesale vegetables at Munich’s wholesale market. Though other girls are interested in Pietro, Maria initially can’t stand him. When he dumps Bärbel, Maria decides to get revenge by making him fall in love with her—a scheme that also stirs jealousy in her boyfriend Franz, a Bundeswehr soldier.
