Codice privato (1988)

Anna has just been left by her partner, with whom she has lived for several years. She calls their mutual friends to find out why they broke up, but they prove reluctant to tell her. She discovers the password to his computer, which allows her to gradually uncover his thoughts through letters he wrote but never sent, as well as the real reason for the breakup. She came from humble beginnings, while he was a famous writer. Some time earlier, when the woman was interviewed on television, he realized that he had accomplished his work: transforming the daughter of greengrocers into a cultured woman, able to discuss many subjects fluently and with understanding. She also discovers that the man is not abroad on a business trip, but staying at friends’ house. Disappointed and embittered, she decides to take revenge and prepares to call her partner’s son, who is in a rehabilitation community, to read him one of the unsent letters. In it, the man admits that he loves him as a son, but also considers him a failure because of the bad choices he has made.
