A harried mother’s packed routine leaves little room to confront mounting financial anxiety and doubts about her marriage.
The story
Anna, a language teacher in her forties and mother of three, spends a single day rushing between work and her children’s daycare, school, and activities such as ballet, fencing, and archery. Her tightly planned routine leaves her little time to pause, while financial anxiety weighs on her and she wonders whether her husband may be cheating. As the pressures of daily life accumulate, the strain begins to threaten her ability to keep going. The story follows the ordinary routines and deferred moments through which a crisis in her marriage quietly unfolds.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The story follows Anna, a language teacher in her forties with three children, through a single day. She is constantly rushing between work and the places where her children go to daycare, school, and extracurricular activities (ballet, fencing, archery, and so on). And as if that were not stressful enough, she is also consumed by unrelenting financial anxiety and the doubt that her husband may be cheating on her. Although she is not the only woman struggling with similar problems, her monotonous schedule, planned down to the minute, leaves her simply no time to think things through or clarify the situation. Her mounting problems threaten to overwhelm Anna; continuing to live this way demands more and more energy, and she has reached the end of her reserves. The plot is in fact built around the woman’s everyday routines; the drama unfolds through the “moments deferred” of the crisis quietly unfolding in her marriage. The question is: will she be able to save her marriage, now in crisis, and preserve what is fragile and unique in her life?
