The story
Marie Sainz, commander of a Lyon judicial police team, is joined by Paris profiler Claire Legendre to investigate a killer targeting people who escaped justice despite committing serious crimes. The elusive murderer strikes repeatedly and is dubbed “the Vigilante” by the Lyon press. Sainz begins receiving calls from the killer, whose precise knowledge of the case leads her to believe the person may belong to the police or judicial system. She even starts to suspect one of her own subordinates, Magali Marciano, as the investigation tightens around the killer’s access to sensitive information.

Marie Sainz, commander of a Lyon judicial police team, receives help from Claire Legendre, a profiler who has come from Paris to assist her in investigating a killer who targets people who escaped justice despite having committed serious crimes. Elusive, the killer strikes repeatedly and is dubbed “the Vigilante” by the Lyon press. Sainz begins receiving phone calls from the killer and, given the very precise details he mentions, becomes convinced that he is part of the police force or the judicial system. She even comes to suspect Magali Marciano, one of her subordinates. Then the killer murders the man responsible for her husband’s coma—a man the policewoman has been keeping watch on for years in her free time—and she reaches the astonishing conclusion that the killer acted to avenge her over this tragedy. But she is removed from the case for failing to disclose at the crime scene that she knew the victim.
