A missing dog sets two rival Paris restaurant families on a collision course over their shared courtyard.

The story

In a Paris neighborhood, the Chouffry family’s Berbère King faces the Zy family’s L’Empire du Dragon, and both restaurants use the courtyard owned by Mme Lavignasse. When Samir Chouffry’s son Oussama comes to stay for the holidays, Samir discovers that his dog, Bouboule, is missing and suspects his rival Wong Zy. Misunderstandings quickly fuel their distrust: a damaged restaurant window is mistaken for evidence of wrongdoing, and Samir’s attempt to make peace is misread as a threat. Mme Lavignasse finally orders the Chouffrys to remove their tables, prompting Samir to look for a way to regain her favor.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In a neighborhood in Paris, two restaurants face each other: the Berbère King, owned by the Chouffry family, and L'Empire du Dragon, owned by the Zy family. The buildings and the courtyard belong to Mme Lavignasse, a retiree who lets the two families set up tables outside as long as they don't cause trouble with each other. The film begins when Oussama, Samir Chouffry's son, comes to spend the holidays with his father. Samir can't find his dog, Bouboule, and starts wondering whether Wong Zy has something to do with it. Wong denies it, claiming he has to prepare for his Chinese New Year party. Seeing that it will be the Year of the Dog, Samir thinks Wong has kidnapped his dog to eat him. That night, Samir spray-paints the front window of L'Empire du Dragon, but finds his dog. Unable to erase the writing, Samir breaks the window to make it look like a break-in, unaware that Wong saw him run away. The next morning, the police arrive, but Samir isn't implicated for lack of evidence. Wong's somewhat dim-witted delivery boy, Pierrick (Vincent Lacoste), who secretly loves Nadiya, Samir's sister, tells his boss that their neighbors might be terrorists. Wong gets frightened when he sees the Chouffry family and their customers shouting, not knowing that they're watching an Algeria match. That evening, Samir comes to make amends by bringing Wong some couscous his mother has cooked, but is forced to put on baggy clothes because of the rain. Seeing him dressed like that, Pierrick and Wong think he's there to blow up the restaurant. A fight breaks out, during which Wong is knocked to the ground. Mme Lavignasse, furious, tells the Chouffry family to remove their tables from her courtyard. Samir then asks Nadiya to get closer to Pierrick to find out how the Zys manage to stay in Mme Lavignasse's good graces. Pierrick tells her that he takes care of the old woman every day and that his boss brings her dishes from his restaurant. Samir decides to do the same, and comes face-to-face with Wong in Lavignasse's apartment. A few hours later, she dies of indigestion in front of the two restaurateurs. After the funeral, the notary tells them that, with no heir, he is looking for a man named Boulard, whom Mme Lavignasse named as her successor. If he can't be found, the building and the restaurants will be sold at auction. Meanwhile, Pierrick takes Nadiya out and explains that when he was a baby, he was found near the garbage bins behind a Chinese restaurant, and has considered himself Chinese ever since. Wong decides to get revenge for Samir's humiliations and takes advantage of Samir's invitation to the neighborhood imam to carry out his plan. Wong intercepts the halal meat delivery and switches its contents. While the imam is eating, Wong calls the Berbère King and says the meat isn't the usual kind, but pork. The truth comes out, and the imam leaves in a fury. Wong takes the opportunity to decorate his restaurant for his New Year's party. That evening, Stéphane, Wong's son, who gets along well with Oussama, tries to contact his friend by webcam but can't, and forgets to unplug his camera. Across the street, Samir happens to see through the camera Mme Zy undressing. He and his brother Kamel decide to get their revenge. The following evening, Wong is overjoyed to see the many customers who have come to celebrate, but quickly loses heart when he sees them taking their clothes off. After everyone has been thrown out, Mme Zy shows him the advertisement (unaware that Samir and Kamel have altered it) showing her in her underwear with the words “Swingers' Party.” Exasperated by her husband's behavior, Mme Zy makes him sleep outside. Oussama makes fun of him, and Stéphane starts fighting with him. At the hospital, the two boys tell their story to a nurse, who orders the Chouffrys and the Wongs to make peace. The families decide to go to a pizzeria to reconcile while Nadiya joins Pierrick at L'Empire du Dragon. He tells her that the notary called him and that he is the “Boulard” he'd been looking for, which makes him Mme Lavignasse's heir. At the restaurant, a drunk Wong tells the Chouffrys where the two young adults are, and Kamel, convinced Pierrick is about to kiss his sister, rushes to find them. Everything happens very quickly, and Pierrick locks himself in a room in the Zys' home when he realizes Nadiya has tricked him. A loud bang is heard, and Samir sees Wong, still drunk, smashing through the Berbère King's front window with his van. Soon, the two restaurants and the buildings become a battleground between the two families, until a fire breaks out. Pierrick is trapped by the flames, and the two families unite to save him. The police arrive and take the heads of the families and Pierrick away. In the van, Pierrick tells them that he has become their new landlord, and Samir and Zy start beating him so he'll put the restaurants back in order. Stéphane then asks Oussama if he'll come back for the next holidays, and the boy answers yes.
