Full plot (contains spoilers)

Successful and attractive lawyer Nora Bruhn is on her way home after a tiring day. She is attacked and narrowly escapes being raped by an unknown person. A short time later, her pet cat is tortured to death. When she also starts receiving constant anonymous threatening letters, her life is completely turned upside down; she feels that she is constantly being followed, watched, and threatened. She can no longer trust anyone except journalist Leonard Cass and her friendly neighbor David. Her constant fear of becoming the victim of a violent crime also affects her professional abilities: she is no longer as successful in her work as a lawyer as she used to be. When it turns out that Leonard is actually a private detective and has only pretended to be a journalist, her trust in him grows stronger, and she confides that her friendly neighbor David takes touching care of her, although sometimes he seems a little too attentive. Leonard tells Nora that he was hired to track down an ex-boyfriend who disappeared without a trace some time ago. He was hired by the sister of the woman he left behind. As Nora and Leonard talk, an alluring atmosphere begins to develop. It is not quite love, since Nora still has a spark of mistrust, but the appeal of the unknown, accompanied by a certain mutual unease, is there. In a way, the two find each other “attractive.” Shortly afterward, Nora receives an ominous message: “We’ll meet again” is scrawled on her mirror. She panics and angrily asks Leonard whether he left her the message, but Leonard assures her that he has no idea what she is talking about or why she is so upset. Later, Nora spends the night with Leonard after telling him about her happy childhood. Everything seems to be all right again until Nora notices a strange scar on Leonard’s leg the next morning. She recognizes it: he is the man who tried to rape her back then, on her way home. The plot now becomes completely confusing: her neighbor David confirms her suspicion that Leonard is the would-be rapist, while Leonard discovers that Nora’s alleged attack was never reported to the police. He also learns that Nora has moved frequently over the past several years, and wonders what she is hiding.
