Hauptsache Ferien (1972)

Dr. Peter Markus is a teacher at a secondary school who is very popular with his students, and he is looking forward to the holidays just as much as they are. But things are not looking so good for student Corinna Kannenberg, whose promotion to the next grade is in jeopardy. To avoid having to repeat the school year, the lazy student comes up with the idea of enlisting the help of the building contractor Kannenberg, Corinna’s father, who is to declare Study Councillor Markus the winner of a competition. Dr. Markus entered the competition because his great dream is to own a house where he can live with his daughter Gaby and his goldfish Otto. The competition’s grand prize is a prefabricated house. Markus is not supposed to learn the truth about how he won until after he has moved in; then they could blackmail him into passing Corinna. And so, before long, workers hired by Kannenberg set to work on the lucky winner’s property. Corinna’s older sister Ursula, an architect, supervises the work. She does not know about her father and sister’s plan. When she falls in love with Peter Markus, and he returns her feelings, she intends to tell him what she has just found out at the topping-out ceremony, but in all the commotion she does not get the chance. When Kannenberg then tells his daughter’s teacher what his “win” is really about, he discovers that Dr. Markus is immune to his attempts at bribery and blackmail. Unfortunately, Markus’s colleague Brammer, who is jealous of the popular teacher and is always looking for a reason to take a jab at him, gets wind of the matter. Dr. Markus is suspended from his post. With the help of his friend Dr. Hebbel, Markus comes up with a plan to turn the tables on Kannenberg. The friends pose as tax investigators and inspect Kannenberg’s records. They persuade the contractor to explain the whole affair to Markus’s superior. Markus is cleared, and nothing now stands in the way of his happiness with Ursula.
