Ich brauche euch (2019)

Fashion designer Silvi lives happily with her partner, Alexander, until a murder turns her life upside down. Her sister Sabine has been killed by her husband. Although she had been out of touch with her sister for a long time, Silvi now finds herself responsible for giving the children, Jani and Alexandra, a new home. Since Silvi never wanted children of her own, the new situation presents her with major challenges. The people involved find it difficult to grow closer to one another, especially Silvi and Jani. Both are struggling with the death of someone they loved, but each shows it in a different way. Jani wants to keep his mother’s memory alive. But he realizes that Sabine had her faults, too, when he accidentally overhears a conversation between Silvi and Alexander. Silvi had previously told Alexander over the phone that she considered their relationship over because she did not love him. But Alexander does not give up and keeps fighting for her. In a private conversation between the two, it becomes clear why Silvi resists committing to a relationship. She claims she does not need love because she would be better off without it. But the real reason is that she does not want to follow the path her sister took: despite the appearance of family happiness and their pursuit of perfection and prosperity, Sabine had become caught in a fatal downward spiral. Although her husband loved her deeply and fulfilled her every wish, which ultimately proved beyond his means and led him to run up debts with the banks for her sake, she had cheated on him with other men. Even if her brother-in-law had tried harder, it would never have been enough. Silvi does not want a committed relationship of her own because she had to watch helplessly as a marriage could turn out that way. On top of that, she feels guilty because she saw the marriage’s disaster coming. She had recognized Sabine’s unhappiness some time ago and did nothing. Struggling with these self-reproaches, Silvi cannot understand what Alexander wants with a woman like her. But he explains that this is precisely why he loves her so much.
