Full plot (contains spoilers)
Antonio Bonocore is a trainee lawyer who works—without a contract and for 300 euros a month—as an assistant to Professor Salvatore “Toti” Bellastella, a leading barrister and criminal law lecturer. Antonio does everything for Bellastella, including grocery shopping and preparing gourmet meals, rushing every day from the Roman countryside to the center of the capital after two hours on public transport. But his all-round zeal is not enough: to help him make the next step in his career, Bellastella proposes that the young trainee make a personal sacrifice by marrying Isabel, the lawyer’s Argentine mistress, and allowing her to acquire Italian citizenship. Antonio must therefore find a balance between his conscience and his desire to make his way in a world dominated by connections; on top of that, he becomes embroiled in a matter involving the Malaspinas, members of the Mafia and clients of Bellastella.
