The story
Music teacher Agostino Nebiolo is a guest at the grand Venetian villa of Marquis Luca Maria, who lives there with his butler. Luca Maria believes he is married to Luisa, an invisible companion present only in his daydreams. In domestic situations, the embarrassed Nebiolo plays along as the marquis addresses empty chairs and converses with Luisa, even prompting him to dance with her. Meanwhile, Aunt Alvisa has Luca Maria followed and filmed to prove he is mentally unfit, so she can take his villa and turn it into a seminary.

Professor Agostino Nebiolo, a music teacher, is a guest of Marquis Luca Maria, who lives with his butler in a grand Venetian villa with extensive grounds, small lakes, and tennis courts. Luca Maria is convinced that he is married to Luisa, an invisible presence who accompanies him only in his daydreams. In every domestic situation, the embarrassed Nebiolo plays along with the Marquis as he addresses empty chairs and converses with his invisible companion, while Nebiolo prompts him to dance with her. Meanwhile, Aunt Alvisa plots behind the Marquis’s back, having him followed and filmed to prove that he is mentally unfit, so she can take the villa from him and turn it into a seminary. One day, at a costume party where the aunt is specifically invited to meet the mysterious Luisa, Luisa really does appear.
