During the Second World War, the Deutsches Afrikakorps establishes a heavily guarded prisoner-of-war camp in the North African desert. Allied soldiers, including British and American units, are held at this isolated base after fighting in the region. The prisoners are systematically subjected to violence, torture, and degrading abuse. The women are raped, the men are castrated, and medical experiments are conducted. The camp’s administration, led by its sadistic commander, von Stolzen, acts brutally and without scruples. Among the prisoners is the American Major Lexman, who becomes the principal organizer of the resistance. As the number of victims grows, an escape plan is devised. The prisoners receive help from a German nurse who is having an affair with the major. During a nighttime operation, a group led by Lexman manages to escape from the camp. The alarm is raised, and the guards immediately give chase. The fugitives must survive in the inhospitable desert while also evading the numerically superior German troops.
