Full plot (contains spoilers)
This film tells the story of a group of heroic cadets waging a guerrilla war on the island of Java in 1947. Divided by secrets from their past and sharp conflicts over personality, social class, and religion, the four young men unite to launch a desperate attack on a Dutch prison camp to save the women they love. The cadets are connected to General Sudirman’s headquarters, where they are given a highly secret mission behind enemy lines in West Java: a commando-style raid on a vital airfield that could turn the tide of the rebels’ resistance against the tyranny General Van Mook inflicted in August 1947. Pushing deep into the forest, they encounter another group of Islamic separatists, as well as new allies and potential traitors: a colonial spy with a rank of his own, civilian allies from the streets, and an old enemy responsible for Dutch intelligence. Surrounded by enemies both outside and within, the heroes must unite and trust one another as they pursue a single goal: independence.
