Full plot (contains spoilers)
Fredi Rüegg returns runaway cats to their owners, some of which he has stolen himself. His home is a garage, and he has resigned himself to life carrying on at an unhurried pace. His colleague Alain has other worries: he is broke and divorced. He pretends to his daughter Tanja that he is a successful businessman. He tries to win her favor by offering to help her band get to its rehearsal room. A short time later, a rear-end collision occurs. The drivers of the Mercedes are Russians, and they want money for the damaged car. The Russians promptly seize the van along with the instruments. For 1,500 francs, Fredi and Alain get the van and everything in it back. They already have an idea for how to raise the money. Their plan is to kidnap the healing cat “Diana,” since her owner would be sure to pay the amount they are short. Then they plan the kidnapping.
