A school prefect's secret fascination with a younger pupil turns a friendship between two boys into a rivalry that ends in a trap.
The story
Sixteen-year-old André Sevrais and eleven-year-old Serge Souplier are schoolboys in different grades whose “special friendship” arouses the jealousy of their prefect of studies, Abbé de Pradts. Secretly fascinated by Serge, the prefect seeks to rid himself of André by setting a trap for him. The conflict centers on the boys’ friendship and the prefect’s jealous intervention; the plot description does not explain the trap’s details.
