Full plot (contains spoilers)
Fired for what he considers an unjust reason, and after writing to the administration seventeen times without receiving a reply, Jules decides to meet the minister. Turned away by security, he takes the few passengers on a local stopping train hostage. The train is left on a siding, and no one is concerned. Robert, Jules’s friend, joins the group. A battered woman, Jeanne, arrives with her friend Nadia, while Jules desperately tries to alert public opinion. However, the passengers soon begin to get along with their clumsy jailer: over snacks and an impromptu party, they settle into a routine until the police intervene. With the group’s agreement, Jules demands fifty million francs, which are paid to him and divided among them. Since no one gives the hostage-taker’s description, they all leave with their share of the money. The assault is launched on an empty carriage.
