When two hapless chaperones board the wrong train, they must find a way to catch up with the children travelling without them.

The story

Benjamin, an overwhelmed man in his forties, is supposed to accompany his son and a group of children on vacation in Embrun, in the Alps. When the other parents withdraw, Basile’s grandfather Antoine joins the trip despite his daughter’s doubts about his ability to care for the boy. At the station, Benjamin and Antoine are distracted and board the wrong train; the children’s train leaves without them. With no money and just one mobile phone between them, the pair pick up Maxime, a tardy, laid-back and rebellious teenager, and set off toward Beaune in pursuit of the children. Their journey quickly becomes a series of improvised detours, while the unsupervised children cause trouble aboard their train.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Benjamin, an overwhelmed man in his forties, is tasked with accompanying his son and a group of children on vacation in Embrun, in the Alps. Since all the other parents have backed out of chaperoning, the only option is for Antoine, Basile’s grandfather, to go with them—against the strong objections of his daughter, who knows just how incompetent and careless he is when it comes to looking after Basile. At the train station, the departure is announced as delayed. Distracted by an elderly woman, Benjamin and Antoine board another train, while the children’s train pulls out without warning, carrying them off unsupervised. With no money and only one mobile phone between them, Benjamin and Antoine pick up Maxime, a tardy, laid-back and rebellious teenager. In pursuit of the first train, they head to Beaune on a second one, but nothing goes as planned. The journey continues with them improvising as situations arise—by ambulance, stolen car or pedal boat—and with an extra passenger whom they believe to be the vehicle’s owner, while he thinks he has been roped into an exciting, eventful stag party. Meanwhile, left to their own devices and completely uninhibited, the children wreak havoc on the train, pursued by a sadistic ticket inspector who harasses them.
