The story

Irene, known by the code name Miele, is a woman in her thirties who secretly helps terminally ill people die by euthanasia, while always giving them the option to stop the process. Under the cover of being a medical student in Padua, she travels for this secret work. Her only stable, lasting relationship is with her friend Rocco, who supplies her with contacts, though Irene wants to keep their relationship physical. Among those who contact her is engineer Grimaldi, who is suffering from depression and has decided to die. Irene refuses to help him because she does not consider herself a hitman.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The film tells the story of Irene, known by the code name Miele (Honey), a woman in her thirties who secretly helps terminally ill people die by euthanasia, always giving them the option to stop the process. Behind a cover persona as a medical student in Padua, Irene actually travels a great deal for her secret work. She has no stable, lasting relationship apart from the one with her friend Rocco, who also supplies her with contacts. In practice, however, she wants to keep their relationship limited to the physical, because she finds nothing truly deep in any of these relationships where she can be her real self. Among the various people who contact her, Irene meets engineer Grimaldi, who, suffering from depression, decides to die. Irene refuses, however, because she does not consider herself a hitman. An unusual friendship develops between them: Irene begins investigating the engineer’s real reasons for his choice, but also finds in him the only person to whom she can tell about the real Irene, rather than her alias, Miele. A turning point comes when Irene rushes to the engineer’s home, fearing that he has killed himself without her help. There, Grimaldi in turn begins to open up to Irene. Irene thus begins to engage more deeply with ethical questions and to stop remaining cold and detached about what she does, moving beyond the superficiality of her youth.
