Catherine is an actress trying to build a career. Her quiet, orderly life is turned upside down when she meets Patrick, who introduces her to the excesses of passionate love. One evening, they make love in the street (an unsimulated sex scene). The two of them plunge into an increasingly aggressive and intense sexual frenzy. Patrick will escape this sensual vertigo only by staging his own end theatrically.
