Neun Leben hat die Katze (1968)

In Munich, Katharina, a freelance journalist, puts up her French friend Anne, who has recently divorced, for a few days. Together, they talk about their aspirations and their mutual acquaintances. Katharina is the mistress of Stefan, a married man who has no intention of leaving his wife. Anne finds herself a suitor, Sascha, who, unlike her, wants a stable, exclusive relationship. Katharina interviews Gabriele, a singer, and confides to Anne that she is attracted to her as a person. She sells the article she has written to a magazine, hoping in this way to help her new friend’s career. Realizing he has no chance with Anne, Sascha offers to be Katharina’s partner, but she turns him down. Anne, for her part, starts seeing Manfred, who is politically active against the Vietnam War. Katharina and Stefan go together to visit another of Stefan’s mistresses in the hospital, which leaves Anne perplexed. Anne eventually leaves by train, just as she arrived, while Katharina continues her troubled relationship with Stefan.
