Full plot (contains spoilers)

António, from a respectable, wealthy family, and José, the housekeeper’s son, have been close friends since childhood. They grow up sheltered, but under José’s mother’s strict watch. As adults, they remain closely attached despite their social differences and, above all, their conflicts over romantic relationships. António marries Camila, whom José has always been in love with. But António is also having an affair with Vanessa, José’s partner in shady business dealings. Economic dependencies, the pressure to maintain the appearance of a happy family life, and their inner conflicts all take their toll. José’s mother, the ever-vigilant domestic worker, tries to avert their fate. But irreconcilable conflicts of interest drive the four young people down a path of suffering with diabolical force.
