After a traumatic encounter leaves her pregnant, a young woman begins discovering the world anew as she communicates with her unborn child.
The story
Nineteen-year-old Ewa becomes pregnant after several men she has just met at a disco force her into a car. At first, she denies the pregnancy and saves money for an abortion, but a punk named Michał robs her. Ewa later learns that a fetus can hear while still in its mother’s womb. She begins speaking to her unborn child, first hesitantly and then with growing confidence, using sounds to describe the world. Raised alone in a home dominated by her cold, haughty mother, Ewa finds that explaining life to the child also leads her to examine it herself.
